Ovid and Web of Knowledge change their looks

Both Ovid and Web of Knowledge are changing the way they look and some of their features.

The Web of Knowledge/Web of Science will move to its new look on Sunday, February 3rd. It’s a cleaner look, but the search mechanism remains very similar.

Ovid changes its look on Monday, February 4th. Not only is the look different, but there are a number of new features as well.

The library will be holding open sessions to demonstrate the new look and features. They will be held in the library and in the Basic Sciences Building and the Hospital. You are invited to stop in and see the new features and the new look. You can also contact one of the reference librarians at 503-494-3478 with any questions and/or concerns you have with them.

Updating Medline saved searches or RSS feeds

The Medline vocabulary is updated annually, with new terms added, terms removed, and terms changed. In order to make sure that your saved search or RSS feed is still getting you the information you need, you will need to check your search strategy to see if the terms you were using are still valid terms, particularly if you are using MeSH subject headings. NLM has an example of what those changes could mean to a search on PubMed at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/techbull/nd07/nd07_skill_kit_yep.html

If you need help editing your search in Pubmed or Ovid Medline, please contact one of the reference librarians at 503-494-3462 or send an email to refer@ohsu.edu

End of ScienceDirect, Elsevier free trials

OHSU Library’s trial access to additional content on ScienceDirect ended on December 31, 2007. The trial of Elsevier’s Freedom Collection provided access to full text content from 1995 for most journals to which the library does not currently subscribe. Click here for a list of added titles.

In the coming months, the OHSU Library’s Collection Development Committee will evaluate usage data from the trial period to see if any titles should be added to the library’s electronic journal collection.

To request that a specific Freedom Collection Trial title be added to the library collection, please complete the Suggest a Library Purchase form.

Further questions about the collection can be directed to Emily McElroy, Head, Collection Development at mcelroye@ohsu.edu or 503 494-6659.
